SURVEY/MANIFESTO by Cuban-American-Mexican

SURVEY in the form of a MANIFESTO by Cuban, American, and Mexican Families

In favor of the recovery of our citizenship/human rights and for the non-intervention by nation states of our historically established migratory patterns.

We, members of Cuban, Mexican and American families cruelly separated by our own governments’ pursuit of interests that remain alien to our will, as they are alien to the preservation and prosperity of our communities and of the families that constitute them, do hereby solemnly declare that:

1. We favor a change in migratory laws that will allow families to obtain visa permits, automatically and without delay, for their own members and associates across our common national borders, with local (municipal) citizenship recognized --automatically and without delay-- so that the need to migrate in a desperate way will be diminished, even eliminated, and that the safety of our family members and associates traveling to and fro will be carefully safeguarded and the costs of migration minimized.

2. We favor that language based communities be recognized in every locality and that the crippling notion of a “single language for all” be discarded, along with that of the dysfunctional nation-state under which we labor. Each person is to be able to use not one but a variety of languages, the acquisition of which can only be considered a highly enriching experience. Pending how they are put to use, today’s and tomorrow’s technologies could contribute to people’s ability to enjoy greater portions of humanity’s cultural wealth, without their original languages and cultures being sacrificed.

For the good of our families and of their chances of survival in a planet that has seldom recognized political or, even, “natural” frontiers.

I hereby so affirm.
